Weaver Street Apartments | Scarsdale, NY

The village of Scarsdale, NY has long been a town where those working in the hustle and bustle of NYC could escape and enjoy quite evenings with family. So when we were hired to design a new apartment building near one of the major intersections in Scarsdale, the community had a lot of interest to keep it within the context of the surrounding neighborhood. With height limitations and stylistic integrity to uphold, we designed the apartment buildings to resemble traditional German architecture that is prevalent throughout the village. By incorporating traditional building materials within the facade, this apartment building has proven to be a model of new construction within a traditional neighborhood.

The 27,000 SF of leasing space on three residential floors incorporates 10 units overall, with most selling for millions of dollars each. To achieve this price-point, we incorporated high-end interior finishes within the seamlessly efficient layout. Due to a new initiative in place, the village leaders required the developer to set aside two units to remain affordable so as to avoid complete gentrification. These units are mixed amongst the others, but maintain the same level of style.

Also incorporated into the design is a restaurant on the ground level so all residents of the village can enjoy this new building and not just those who live there. One challenging aspect of the design was to keep restaurant-goers and residents separate within the building and parking areas, so we utilized the unique topography of the site and created two levels of parking sunken beneath the main street level out of sight.
